Trauma-Informed Therapy for Overthinking and Self-Criticism

For people who seem to be functioning well on the outside, but privately struggle with overthinking, self-criticism, or shame.

How Psychology can help

The truth is there is no one size fits all approach - as individuals we carry our own past experiences, generational patterns and neuropsychological starting points - shaped by the environments we grew up in and now inhabit.  Psychology is the discipline of making sense of how all these different factors come together to affect how we feel, think and behave. It is the science of motivation: what we find it possible to do and what we avoid, or withdraw from. It is the science of cognition: how we think, and what our biases can be - affected by attention, memory and executive function. It is the science of emotion: what we feel, how we make sense of what we feel and how this connects to motivation and cognition. We live in an age where people are encouraged to think of themselves as a "brand" or as a "machine" or as a "role". There is simply so much more to being human than that, and when the stories we are told about ourselves or tell ourselves become narrow - predictably, we tend to suffer. Therapy is the art of expanding understanding, whichever model you choose - and it is my commitment to help my clients to deepen their relationship to themselves, with care, curiosity and compassion. The science underpins what we do - the way we do it, is a creative relationship we form together based on who you and how you want to be helpful to yourself.
